As part of the next phase in the evolution of our growth, United Rentals is seeking a Product Development Manager SAS (PDM). To achieve this goal, our Services and Advanced Solutions Group is partnering with the field to originate, prioritize, develop and drive profitable revenues by adding value associated with these solutions.

The focus of the Product Development Manager - SAS, will be working in close collaboration (as a Team) with the Project Manager and field leadership to promote, educate, (translate) and advance innovative SAS group products and solutions to the field for customer adoption and revenue generation. The Product Development Manager will play a leading role in deploying new and innovative technologies including but not limited to – equipment access management, jobsite access management, worker / personnel productivity solutions and WEDGE remote sensing technology for concrete monitoring and “SmartHeat” solutions with customers in the US, Canada and throughout the United Rentals’ network. The PDM will play a critical role as a sales and solutions liaison between the SAS group and our field sales leaders and account managers to effectively leverage our core competencies and extend our differentiation as to be viewed as an Industry Leading, Trusted and Strategic Partner by both our internal sales teams and our external customers.

Essential Duties:

Spanning across all regions of United Rentals, the PDM in conjunction with the PM will target and focus on field and customer adoption of innovative offerings from the Services and Advanced Solutions Group within URI.

  • Work closely with corresponding Branches, Districts, and Regions, including Region staff (RFDs, RSMDs, RVPs, DMs, etc.).

  • The PDM will take particular responsibility for the Northeast, Mid-Central, Mid-West, and Western Canada regions

  • Work with applicable internal sales team(s) members to drive innovation and incremental SAS revenues while deepening customer relationships and entanglement.

  • Partner with selected business units and Regions, to formulate and present strategic and innovative solutions for customers that focus on an accretive ROI for both the customer and UR.

  • Partner extensively with the SAS / ASG Project Manager, and SAS leadership to translate and take the innovative offering “to the field and to customers”.

  • Serve as the Subject matter expert and single point of contact for the evolving SAS innovative products and offerings, and related products and applications, in support of ISR's, OSR's, SAM's, NAM's, DNA's, RSMD's, and RVP's who deliver these innovative offerings and solutions to our customers.

  • Develop and deploy innovative technologies to help meet the needs of United Rentals’ largest and most innovative customers

  • Help United Rentals’ customers leverage technology to improve productivity and safety

  • Partner with Region and Sales Leadership to identify innovative products, technologies, and services to meet customer needs

  • Build a network of external suppliers and innovators in the construction technology space


  • Knowledge of civil construction practices and customers, including concrete

  • Knowledge of heating and cooling technologies

  • Knowledge of URI systems, SFDC and other technology sales tools

  • Strong internal URI institutional knowledge and internal relationships with multiple Regions preferred; consultative solution selling expertise

  • Extensive knowledge of innovative technologies and products in the construction technology space (e.g., IoT, virtual reality)

  • Experience selling and introducing complex technological solutions to customers

  • Experience developing proposals, including market and financial analysis

  • Strong Team Player
