Responsible for performing monthly accounting activities for a multi-billion dollar company with operations throughout the US and Canada. The incumbent must be knowledgeable in the most complex accounting concepts, practices and procedures; have a good understanding of internal controls; rely on experience and judgment to independently plan and accomplish goals; and be able to manage constant changes well. Duties include performing general ledger account reconciliations, monthly close tasks, and providing accounting support to field operations and corporate as necessary.
Perform monthly close processes and account reconciliations in support of the monthly close process
Perform advanced/complex balance sheet account reconciliations; explain period fluctuations and research/clear account transactions, as necessary, with minimal assistance
Perform very complex monthly close processes with valuable analyses to support general ledger journal entries timely and accurately
Perform most complex roll forward schedules for selected general ledger accounts
Serve as a back-up to Staff Accountant I and Staff Account IIs on various monthly close processes and account reconciliations
Create/Update instructions for current procedures/processes
Provide assistance to regions, districts and branches on accounting matters
Respond to more complex inquiries from the field on accounting matters
Independently handle the majority of inquiries from less experienced staff members
Provide financial reporting support to the Regions as necessary.
Perform complex ad hoc analyses. Utilize accounting knowledge and experience to provide sound analysis and data driven recommendations to management.
Perform collection of accounting data as necessary and preparation of special reports, as requested
Provide financial data to fulfill both internal and external requests for financial data efficiently
Analyze and provide explanations of income/expense accounts fluctuations between periods
Identify process improvement opportunities, communicate to management, and demonstrate how that adds value to company. Conduct independent research and review of accounting standards to ensure compliance throughout the department.
Act as a resource/mentor and provide training to more junior-level staff members. Serve as lead on various projects assigned by management.
Education : Bachelor's degree required. Degree in Accounting or Finance or comparable work experience required. CPA/CMA designation or MBA preferred.
Experience : Minimum of 3 years public and/or private accounting experience required.
Other Skills Required: Must possess strong PC skills w/proficiency in Excel, Word, Access and financial accounting software; and strong verbal and written communication skills. Must have strong organizational and project management skills. Must also be able to multi-task and shift priorities as necessary. Experience with Lawson accounting software is a plus.
