United Rentals Performance Analytics Summer Intern in Stamford, Connecticut

The summer Intern position is part of the Performance Analytics department based in our company's headquarters. The Performance Analytics department was created 5 years ago and is a Center Of Excellence for Analytics. Organizationally it is part of Finance but supports all functions. Main projects have been centered on Pricing, Operations (Supply Chain) and Fleet.

Description : The Summer Intern for Performance Analytics will take the initiative in our open culture and a hands-on assignment where you'll explore, analyze and find insights into our operational data that drives the business. Work with the Sr. Analyst to provide business data support, design, development and testing of enhancements to new and current reports/analyses. The Intern will help analyze business unit specifications and requirements and help deduce needs for requirements prototype. Apply your skills to work with large data sets and use data mining skills to help business unit owners design their work plans.

Essential Duties:

Support of specific projects using data review, data mining, and visualization to support business teams with their reporting and analyses.

Experiment with the company's data to identify areas where it can be leveraged to drive improved performance.

Working with the Performance Analytics Team to review data required for proposed reporting enhancements and documenting data definitions.

  • Discuss desired changes with the Project Team in order to ensure data sourced meets their expectations

  • Present solutions and alternatives to business and technical leads on data needed for design work.

  • Perform tests on data and the reports to ensure user experience is as expected

Develop and maintain strong relationships with the Performance Analytics Team and business owners in order to operationalize and take action from the learning from the data analytics.

Examples of projects:

  • Supporting FP&A analysts to support Tableau data sources and corporate ranking reports

  • Designing proof of concepts for Corporate initiatives: Delivery Charge Discount Approvals, OT Reporting, Customer Credit Card Payments

  • Compare data produced by existing reports against new data sets to ensure accuracy in support of new Data2Action dashboards.


Education : Obtaining degree in Finance, Information Management, Statistics, Econometrics, Supply Chain, Operations Research or Analytical/Quantitative Methods with a 3.5 GPA or higher

Experience :

2+ years of progressive analysis experience.

Strong experience and ability to work with large data sets

Exposure to Tableau and Microsoft Excel

Some project management and documentation skills to support interaction with business owners
